Scrap metal recycling is not only beneficial to the environment, but it may also be quite profitable for you. So if you’re looking for a way to earn some extra money, selling common scrap metal is definitely something worth considering. And don’t worry if it all sounds a bit complicated at first. Finding items you can scrap doesn’t have to be difficult – there are many everyday household items that are either made of or contain metals. Transporting scrap metal to your chosen scrap yard in London, or anywhere near you, won’t be a problem as well – many companies, including ours, offer scrap metal pick up along with standard rubbish collection as part of their services.

Common Household Items You Can Scrap

Old cookware

If you take a look around your kitchen, you’ll be able to find many items made of metals that can be scrapped and recycled – with aluminium, copper and stainless steel among them. So if you have pots, pans, kettles or cutlery that are old and damaged, or you simply have no use for them, instead of storing them in your cupboards or throwing them away, you can scrap them and get some money back.

Household appliances

Appliances like washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, microwave ovens are incredibly useful and can make your everyday life a lot easier. Unfortunately, most of them cannot last longer than a few years before they need to be replaced with a newer and more efficient model. However, it doesn’t mean that there’s nothing more to do with such an unwanted appliance than throwing it away – if it’s still in working condition, you may consider selling it second-hand. The second option is to simply hand it over to a scrap metal company.

Electronic devices

Similarly as in the case of household appliances, electronic devices like computers, laptops, smartphones and TV sets are becoming more and more present in our lives with each passing year. One thing you need to know about them is that they contain various types of metals, in rather small quantities, but nonetheless, these are some of the most sought after metals, so recycling old electronics is definitely a good idea.

Food containers

Even with the current trend of choosing more eco-friendly alternatives, most commonly found food containers are made either of plastic or metal. If you often buy canned food, don’t throw the cans out – one can may not seem like much, but collecting them over a longer period can earn you some extra money with almost no effort at all!

Gardening tools and equipment

There are metals to be found not only in the house but in your garden as well – lawnmowers, gardening tools, iron or aluminium garden furniture. If you own any of such items that you no longer need, you can safely add them to the rest of your scrap metal and look for the best opportunity to sell.

Remember that just because you can scrap many household items does not mean that each of them will be accepted by each scrap yard. That’s why your first step should always be to check what is accepted and what is not.
